Tooth Extractions in Centralia
Gentle, Comfortable Care When You Need It Most
At Twin City Smiles Family Dentistry, we understand that needing a tooth extraction can feel stressful — but you’re in good hands. Dr. Duong Ly provides gentle, precise extractions using advanced technology and local or oral sedation options to ensure your comfort every step of the way.
Whether you’re dealing with a damaged, infected, or impacted tooth, our goal is to make your experience as smooth and pain-free as possible while protecting your long-term oral health.
What to Expect During the Extraction Process
Your comfort and safety are always our top priorities. Before the procedure, we will numb the tooth, surrounding gums, and jawbone with a local anesthetic so you don’t feel pain.
During the extraction, you may feel some pressure as the tooth is gently loosened from the socket, but you should not feel pain. In some cases, when a tooth is firmly anchored or has curved roots, the tooth may be sectioned (divided into smaller pieces) and removed in stages—a common and safe procedure.
If at any time you feel discomfort, Dr. Ly and our team will make adjustments to keep you comfortable.
Why a Tooth May Need to Be Extracted
At Twin City Smiles Family Dentistry, our first priority is always to save your natural teeth whenever possible. However, sometimes an extraction is the best option for your overall dental health. Teeth may need to be removed because of:
Severe decay that cannot be restored
Advanced gum disease (periodontitis)
Broken or fractured teeth beyond repair
Impacted teeth (such as wisdom teeth)
Preparing the mouth for orthodontic treatment
Dr. Duong Ly will carefully evaluate your situation and discuss all alternatives, as well as tooth replacement options, before recommending an extraction.
After Your Tooth Extraction
Proper aftercare is key to smooth healing. Here’s what to expect and how to care for your mouth following an extraction:
A blood clot will form at the extraction site to protect the area and begin healing. Bite down on a gauze pad for 30–45 minutes right after your procedure.
Avoid disturbing the clot for the first 72 hours. This means:
Do not rinse vigorously
Do not drink through a straw
Avoid smoking or alcohol
Refrain from brushing near the extraction site
Limit heavy exercise for 24 hours to reduce bleeding risk.
Some mild pain and swelling is normal. Use an ice pack for swelling and take prescribed medications as directed.
Stick to soft, nutritious foods for the first day, and drink plenty of fluids. Resume normal brushing and flossing after 24 hours (just avoid the extraction site).
Most patients feel much better within a few days and can return to normal routines quickly. If you experience heavy bleeding, severe pain, swelling lasting more than 2–3 days, or any reaction to medications, contact our office immediately.

At Twin City Smiles, we know that extractions can feel intimidating. That’s why we take the time to answer your questions, explain your options, and make sure you feel at ease throughout the process. Our team is here to help you heal comfortably and protect your long-term oral health.

What People Are Saying…
“I like this place a lot. I went here for the first time 2 days ago to get an extraction. I had a pretty bad tooth and it took a lot to numb it. The dentist was patient and made sure I didn't feel pain. I also really liked the dentist he explained thing really well told me what to expect and was also a little funny. I also like the fact that I was not pressured into spending more money than I needed to. That was my reason for leaving my last dentist. This dentist and the administrative workers were very good about giving me multiple options and explaining why and how those options worked. I would definitely recommend this dentist to anybody.”

“I can't say enough about how great my experience has been with Dr. Ly and his staff! They go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and readily answer all of my questions (and I always have a lot:). Maybe the thing that has impressed me most is the skill and care with which Dr. Ly goes about his work; he takes extra precautions to ensure my visits are as comfortable and pain-free as possible. I've had a considerable amount of work done, and it's always been performed with skill, cheerful friendliness, and legitimate concern for my comfort and well-being. He personally calls to follow up after any significant procedure, and I have already sent family members to see him--and they are just as pleased as I am. Highly recommended!”
